Everything Everywhere All At Once actress Michelle Yeoh will reprise her role as Philippa Georgiou in its upcoming original movie Star Trek: Section 31, announced the streaming platform Paramount+.

“I’m beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family,” wrote the streaming platform, having quoted Yeoh, on its Twitter handle along with an image of the Academy Award-winning actress.

“Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh will star in #StarTrekSection31, a special movie event coming to @ParamountPlus !,” the tweet also reads.

The 60-year-old actress had a recurring role as Philippa Georgiou on the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Short Treks.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Alex Kurtzman and his Secret Hideout hatched a plan to make a new Star Trek movie to stream on Paramount+ every two years. The US-based entertainment magazine also reported that Section 31 would be the first part of Phase 2 of Star Trek on Paramount+.

Kurtzman pivoted Section 31 from a TV series to a feature film last summer after realising that Michelle Yeoh would win the Oscar for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Combined with fears of oversaturating the Star Trek franchise with too many series and a desire by Paramount+ to enter the film event space along with Yeoh’s busy schedule, Section 31 was restructured into a feature film, to be followed by more Star Trek movies, the report states.
