The second The Flash trailer is here and Michael Keaton’s Batman takes centrestage with many callbacks to the original 1989 Batman movie that will have fans going nuts saying ‘did you see that?!’. From dialogues to suits to props and symbols, the trailer is full of them and we can’t wait to point them out.

The trailer opens with two versions of the Flash approaching the Wayne Manor with Keaton’s voice recounting his origin story of the loss of his parents and the pain that made him take up the mantle of the Dark Knight.

But what has us most excited is the look at the Batcave. It has the giant Batcomputer of the Tim Burton era (except it looks like it’s been upgraded). The Batwing, however, slowly descends into the cave and we can see the waterfall that was very much a part of the cave in the Christopher Nolan era.

Then there are the Batsuits. From the one that Keaton’s Batman will be wearing in The Flash movie in the foreground to the Batsuit from Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns. There are some other suits that are callbacks to some of the toys that came out after the Batman films in the 1990s.

Next we see a scene from Barry Allen’s past with his parents, with his mother injured. Whether it is the Reverse Flash who is the cause of the death of Barry’s parents like the comic book, we are not yet in the know, but it is that incident that Barry travels back in time to stop and ends up “breaking the universe”.

We see general Zod’s ship wreaking havoc on Metropolis followed by a callback to Henry Cavill’s Superman in the form of the S symbol of Supergirl, the Kryptonian who occupies the parallel Earth that Barry travels to. And yes, it still means hope.

But let’s get back to Batman! Because next up is the iconic Keaton dialogue delivered to Jack Nicholson’s Joker in the Batman movie — “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts.” It has been modified a little and the delivery is much more sombre, but it is sure to be one of those ‘woohoo’ moments from the film.

Ben Affleck’s Batman also makes an appearance, telling Barry that the scars they have make them who they are and we get a glimpse of him riding out on his Batpod. We see Supergirl carrying the limp body of one of the Barry’s into the sky and scenes of battles with Zod’s army ending with what looks like Supergirl getting one up on Zod.

The speed force scenes look epic as does that scene of Batman using his cape as a glider. Younger, parallel Earth Barry is not willing to accept death and could be a hint at him becoming the dark version of the Flash.

Before the title scene, logos of all the heroes flash on screen including Keaton’s Batman logo, Affleck’s Batman logo and Supergirl’s logo.

The final epic callback to Keaton’s 1989 Batman movie is the last scene of the Batwing outlined against the moon, forming Keaton’s version of the Bat symbol.

If the trailer is anything to go by, and early fan reactions pouring in from the CinemaCon 2023 screening of the movie, we are in for a treat this June.
