Six years after delivering ’96, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, director C Premkumar is back with his sophomore Tamil film Meiyazhagan starring Karthi and Arvind Swami. The makers on Monday released the movie trailer, offering a glimpse into an emotional story of relationships and reconciliation.
The two-minute-44-second-long trailer portrays Karthi as a fun-loving man from the village, while Arvind takes on the role of a city dweller carrying emotional baggage from his past. The plot revolves around Arvind’s character returning to his village after several years and his interaction with his jovial brother-in-law, played by Karthi, setting the stage for the rekindling of a strained bond.
“Welcoming you all into the calm and soulful world of #Meiyazhagan. Here’s the trailer,” Karthi wrote on social media after sharing the trailer.
Alongside Karthi and Arvind Swami, the film also features Sri Divya, Devadarshini, and Rajkiran. It will hit the cinemas on September 27,.
Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has lent his voice for two songs — Poraen Naa Poraen and Yaaro Ivan Yaaro — in Meiyazhagan, which is produced by Jyotika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment banner. Govind Vasantha has composed both the music and background score for the film, marking his second collaboration with Premkumar after ‘96.
On the work front, Arvind was last seen in the Netflix limited series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack directed by Anubhav Sinha. Karthi, on the other hand, played the lead role in Raju Murugan’s heist comedy Japan in 2023.
