Natalie Portman’s troubled television actress is offered the chance to portray the role of a real-life paedophile teacher, played by Julianne Moore, in the teaser of filmmaker Todd Haynes’ satirical drama May December.

The 43-second-long clip begins with the two lead actresses looking in a mirror. Portman’s Elizabeth, who is a television actress, pays a visit to Moore’s Gracie, the woman she is set to play in a movie.

The clip also shows a teary-eyed Portman staring right at the camera and uttering the words “my love”. It also shows Gracie embracing her much-younger husband Joe (Charles Melton) while crying. The video ends with Natalie’s character saying, “I think about you all the time,” which seems to have been intended for Joe who was raped as a child by Moore’s character.

The teaser of the film promises a dark melodrama loosely based on the events of a child-rape case in the 1990s.

May December premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and is also set to be screened at the BFI London Film Festival. It is slated to release in North American theatres on November 17 and on Netflix on December 1.
