Hollywood veterans Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are set to join forces for Netflix's upcoming crime thriller Animals, the streaming platform announced on Thursday.
Affleck, 51, will be taking on the directorial responsibilities for Animals, while 53-year-old Damon will return to the screen under Affleck's direction.
“Longtime collaborators Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up once again. Affleck will direct Damon in the kidnapping thriller, Animals, for Netflix,” the official handle of Netflix posted on X alongside a photo of Affleck and Damon sitting together at an awards show.
The film, co-produced by Dani Bernfeld in collaboration with Damon and Affleck's Artists Equity banner, promises an intense and gripping storyline. According to Deadline, Animals will revolve around a politician and his wife who find themselves faced with daunting challenges as they embark on a mission to rescue their kidnapped son.
Damon, Affleck, and Artists Equity's most recent collaboration, Air, proved to be a major success, earning rave reviews and securing a place as one of Amazon's highest-grossing theatrical hits, with an impressive USD 90 million at the global box office.
The Boston-born friends, whose camaraderie has spanned decades, have a long history of on-screen collaborations, dating back to their Oscar-winning debut in Good Will Hunting (1997). Their most recent joint venture, The Last Duel (2021), also received critical acclaim.
