Former MasterChef Australia contestant Depinder Chhiber is set to make an appearance in the Holi special episode of cooking reality show MasterChef India 2023 tonight, the 29-year-old Indian-origin chef has announced on Instagram.
Depinder, who competed in MasterChef Australia 13, impressed the judges and audiences alike with her modern take on Indian cuisine.
“Early start but so worth it! Can’t believe I’m coming back into the MasterChef Kitchen,” Depinder wrote on Instagram alongside a behind-the-scenes video of her getting ready for the show.
The Holi special episode of MasterChef India 2023 —judged by celebrity chefs Vikas Khanna, Ranveer Brar and Garima Arora— will air tonight at 9pm on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV.
In a teaser shared by the makers of MasterChef India on social media, chef Garima informs the contestants that special guests will join them for Holi festivities. Following her announcement, seven ‘super chefs’, including Depinder, enter the kitchen. The judges, ‘super chefs’ and home cooks smear colours on each other and there is a festive mood inside the kitchen.
Each of the home cooks are then paired up with one ‘super chef’ for the challenge of the day. Depinder is paired with Gurkirat Singh Grover. To mark the occasion of Holi, the home cooks, along with their partner ‘super chef,’ are asked to prepare a three-course meal that “champions the colours of the festival”.
The teaser further shows Santa Sarmah cooking a special bhog for Lord Krishna. “On a normal day, the air inside the kitchen is heavy with spices. But today, there is a riot of colours in the MasterChef India kitchen,” Gurkirat says. However, when chef Garima asks him what dish he is working on, Gurkirat is tongue-tied.
The homecooks — Priyanka Kundu Biswas, Aruna Vijay, Kamaldeep Kaur, Suvarna Bagul, Nayanjyoti Saikia, Santa, and Gurkirat — are competing for the ‘ticket to finale’ this week. Sachin Khatwani, who prepared the least-impressive dish on Monday, is already out of the race.
