Young X-Man Hisako Ichiki aka Armor will be back in Peach Momoko and Marvel Entertainment’s new animated series Ultimate X-Men, which will take fans through the superhero team’s journey blending Japanese folklore and urban legends.

A one-minute-35-second-long comic book panel trailer, dropped by the makers on Friday, introduces fans to Hisako aka Armor — a Japanese teenage mutant who faces her darkest fears and discovers her powers. The young mutant, one of the first of a generation of X-Men, first appeared in the superhero universe in the 2009 series Astonishing X-Men.

The trailer shows that Armor receives a totem-like item, which unleashes hell instead of protecting her, hinting a mystical spin on the X-Men lore to introduce the superheroes in a new way.

With the artwork of globally acclaimed artist and writer Peach Momoko, the trailer also gives a glimpse of Maystorm, inspired by the X-Men character Storm, who is expected to make an appearance in the upcoming series. A third instalment of Marvel’s Ultimate series created by Hickman and Bryan Hitch’s Ultimate Invasion, the show will be a modern take on Marvel characters and their stories.

“At first, I was worried about being chosen for such an important project, but the more I draw and write the series, the more confident I am with my own vision of Ultimate X-Men,” Momoko recently told AiPT Comics. “Ultimate X-Men isn’t directly influenced by classic X-Men stories. I like to believe C.B. [Cebulski] and Jonathan Hickman chose me because they wanted something completely new and different.”

Adapted from Marvel’s Children of the Atom series, which was released in 2021 as a reimagining of the superhero series, Ultimate X-Men will premiere on March 6.
