The ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood has brought the production of two high-profile series — DC’s The Penguin and Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again — to a standstill.

According to US-based entertainment portal Variety, the makers of these two shows, both slated for a 2024 premiere, have halted production until the end of the writers’ strike.

Born Again is a semi-continuation of the Netflix show Daredevil (2015 - 18). Charlie Cox, who played the titular role in Daredevil, will return as the visually impaired lawyer moonlighting as a vigilante in Born Again. Cox’s Daredevil has made appearances in the film Spider-Man: No Way Home and the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Vincent D’Onofrio will also reprise his role as the big bad Kingpin on the show, while Jon Bernthal will be back as The Punisher. The series is set to arrive on Disney+.

The Penguin, on the other hand, is a spin-off to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, in which Colin Farrell played the iconic DC villain. He will be returning to the prosthetics-heavy role for the series. The show also stars Cristin Milioti, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen. The Penguin is scheduled to stream on Max in 2024.

More than 11,000 members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) began the ongoing writers’ strike in May. They claim that they are not paid fairly in this streaming era.

Farrell, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin, recently joined a WGA picket line outside of Paramount in Times Square and spoke about why he stands with the strike.
