Marvel Studios’ I Am Groot, an animated series on baby Groot’s life, will premiere on Disney Plus this August 10, with Hollywood actor Vin Diesel rendering his voice to baby Groot in the series.

Marvel Studios announced the date of this original series of shorts on June 5 with the unveiling of the poster. Apart from the poster, Marvel hasn’t disclosed much about the programme, except that it would “follow Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble among the stars,” said Marvel on their official website.

In terms of the poster, we get to see baby Groot chilling out with his favourite tunes and a tasty-looking beverage, and a tiny umbrella. Two little four-eyed aliens holding a palm tree cut-out are also visible on the poster.

It is not clear as yet if any other Guardians of the Galaxy characters like Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax or even the newest guardian Thor will appear in the animated programme, or if it will only focus on Groot.

Dug Days, Olaf Presents, and Ice Age Scrat Tales are a few of the short series on Disney’s streaming service that follows the absolute favourite side characters of Marshmallow, Sven, Scrat, Baby Scrat, Carl, Russell, Fly and others who may not have gotten enough screen time in the movies they were in. All these series are mostly targeted toward kids.

I Am Groot will premiere on Disney Plus right before She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on August 17. It’s the first original Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff, but it won’t be the last. In December, Disney will release a live-action Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be available exclusively on Disney Plus.

This series of shorts will serve as the start of a major marketing campaign for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is planned to hit theatres on May 5, 2023.

Before we get to see baby Groot, we’ll get to see the grown-up Groot in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is set to hit theatres on July 7.
