Apple Original Films is set to release Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, to a wide global theatrical release on October 20, altering its initial plan of a limited theatrical release.
“In theaters everywhere October 20,” wrote Apple Original Films while confirming the news on X along with two new posters of the upcoming film.
Since Paramount Pictures has partnered with Apple on the movie’s theatrical release, Killers of the Flower Moon will get a streaming berth on Apple TV+.
Though Apple had originally intended to release the film in limited cinemas on October 6, its decision for a wide global launch for Killers of the Flower Moon follows the success of both Barbie and Oppenheimer this summer. The upcoming western crime thriller’s run on Imax is also part of the plan, which was also confirmed by the studio.
Directed by Scorsese and written for the screen by Eric Roth and Scorsese, the film is based on David Grann’s bestselling book. Set in Oklahoma during the 1920s, it depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation. Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion and Tantoo Cardinal also feature in the film.
Killers of the Flower Moon is produced by Apple alongside Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions and Appian Way. Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Daniel Lupi are the lead producers, with DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Somner, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul serving as executive producers.
