Pop singer Mariah Carey is back to rehearsals for her upcoming shows in China and Brazil following her mother Patricia and sister Alison’s recent death on the same day in August, she said on Sunday alongside a video.

“Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you,” the 55-year-old singer wrote alongside a video of her singing her hit 2005 track It’s Like That.

On August 27, Carey said in a statement that both her mother and sister died on the same day. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” the singer said. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she added.

Last year, Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks and broke Spotify’s all-time record of most streams in a single day on Christmas eve.

Carey had shared the news with her fans alongside pictures from her Christmas celebrations. “Wow!! Woke up this morning to the incredible news of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” breaking the Spotify record and being #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 & the Global 200 charts,” she had written on X.

All I Want for Christmas Is You, the lead single from Carey’s fourth studio album Merry Christmas (1994), went on to become a Christmas standard. It has put the singer on top of Billboard Hot 100 for a record 93th week, counting the latest weeks. On Spotify, the song has been played for over 17.7 million times, shattering the music streamer’s all-time record of most streams in a day.
