Manoj Bajpayee on Thursday shared stills from his 1988 crime drama Satya to mark 26 years of the Ram Gopal Varma directorial that brought the actor to the limelight for the first time.
"Mumbai Ka King Kaun," Manoj wrote alongside the pictures, alluding to a hit dialogue from the film which revolved around Mumbai’s underworld.
The carousel also features Manoj’s co-stars including J. D. Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar and Saurabh Shukla.
Satya, the first instalment of Varma's Gangster trilogy about organised crime in India, also stars Aditya Shrivastava and Paresh Rawal. Written by Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap, the film follows Satya (Chakravarthy), an immigrant who arrives in Mumbai seeking employment. After Satya befriends Bhiku Mhatre (Manoj), he becomes embroiled in the city's underworld.
Released on July 3, 1998, Satya went on to win a National Film Award. It inspired several sequels like Company (2002) and D (2005) and a direct sequel Satya 2 (2013).
Manoj last appeared in Apoorv Singh Karki’s action thriller Bhaiyya Ji, alongside Vipin Sharma and Jatin Goswami. In the film, Manoj played the titular character Ram Charan Tripathi, a retired and feared criminal. The film hit theatres on May 24.
Additionally, Manoj is set to reprise his role as Srikant Tiwari in the third season of Raj & DK’s spy thriller series The Family Man. The first instalment of the show premiered on Amazon Prime Video on September 20, 2019. The second season dropped on the streamer on June 4, 2021. The third instalment is expected to hit Prime Video later this year.
