Manjummel Boys actor Soubin Shahir has joined the cast of Rajinikanth’s upcoming action thriller Coolie as Dayal, filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj announced through a social media post on Wednesday.

“Kicked to have #SoubinShahir sir joining the cast of #Coolie as #Dayal Welcome on board sir,” wrote Lokesh, sharing Soubin’s character poster on X.

The poster shows Soubin, who portrays a character named Dayal, sitting with a cigarette clenched between his teeth while looking at a gold watch with a perplexed expression.

After Kannada star Upendra, Soubin is the latest name to board the cast of the film, which was previously touted as Thalaivar 171.

On the work front, Soubin last appeared in the comedy drama Nadikar. The 40-year-old actor is currently working on Boban Samuel’s upcoming Malayalam-language film Machante Maalakha.

A teaser of Coolie, dropped by the makers in April, provided a glimpse of Rajinikanth beating up goons with a chain made of gold watches in his inimitable style.

Lokesh had earlier confirmed that Coolie will not be a part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which comprises the films Kaithi (2019), Vikram (2022) and Leo (2023).

The music for Coolie has been scored by Anirudh Ravichander, who had previously composed the music for Rajinikanth’s Jailer (2023).

As per reports, the movie will also feature Aamir Khan, though no confirmation has been given from any quarters. If Aamir joins the cast of the film, it will mark his reunion with Rajinikanth 30 years after their last collaboration Aatank Hi Aatank (1995).

Produced by Sun Pictures, which had earlier collaborated with Rajinikanth for his films like Jailer (2023), Annaatthe (2021), Enthiran (2010) and Petta (2019), Coolie is expected to hit theatres in 2025.
