Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sharmin Segal Mehta look regal in ethnic ensembles in the character posters of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming Netflix period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, dropped by the streamer on Thursday.
Marking Bhansali’s OTT debut, the series will follow the stories of love and betrayal experienced by courtesans living in Lahore’s oldest red-light district, Heeramandi. Set against the backdrop of British-ruled India, the story explores how the women at Heeramandi found themselves entangled in a constant power struggle with anti-colonial movements on the rise.
“In a Bazaar full of diamonds, she shines the brightest ,” Netflix described Koirala’s character in the poster. The actress looks gorgeous in a yellow ethnic wear paired with a green dupatta. She wore a jhoomar on the left side of her head coupled with statement earrings. A bold makeup and mehendi complemented her look.
Aditi, on the other hand, sports a deep red lehenga with golden embroidery. A jhoomar, maangtika and traditional earrings add to her elegance. The actress wraps her dupatta around her head and gazes into the camera with wistful eyes. “She yearns for freedom, and not just her own,” reads the description.
Sharmin’s character craves the freedom to love. Sharmin, dressed in a yellow ghagra set, dazzles in her poster as she looks forward with a subtle smile. Sharmin pairs her outfit with a gem-encrusted maangtika and a nose ring and lets a lock of her hair open.
“As everything around her dazzles with glory, she yearns for freedom to love ,” Netflix captioned the poster.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Richa Chadha.
Bhansali has also teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal for his epic saga Love and War, slated to arrive in theatres during Christmas next year.
However, the release date for Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has not yet been announced.
