Mammootty, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Farhan Akhtar, Aditi Rao Hyadari, Richa Chadha and Anurag Kashyap were among the celebrities who heaped praise on Payal Kapadia for winning the Grand Prix award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival for her debut feature film All We Imagine as Light.

All We Imagine as Light is the first Indian film in three decades and the first by an Indian woman director to feature in the festival's main competition.

Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty congratulated the entire team for their remarkable achievement. “Making Indian Cinema Proud. What an amazing achievement. Congrats to Payal Kapadia, Kani Kusruthi, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and the entire team of All We Imagine as Light,” he wrote on X.

“Your remarkable talent and dedication are truly inspiring. Here's to your continued success and many more accolades in the future,” wrote Prosenjit Chatterjee, congratulating the young director.

“Congratulations Payal Kapadia .. you’re the hope and the inspiration,” Anurag Kashyap posted on Instagram.

Kiara Advani took to her Instagram stories to share a post by Festival de Cannes. “Congratulations,” she wrote in the caption. Bhumi Pednekar re-shared a post from the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival on her Instagram Stories and wrote “Bravo” to praise Payal.

Radhika Apte also posted on her Instagram stories, saying, “Huge congratulations to the beautiful and incredible people behind this film!! This is just perfect.”

Terming Kapadia’s victory as “historic”, Richa Chadha said she was “just beaming from this news.”

“I wanted to put some flowers out to celebrate the women from my country at @Festival_Cannes. How did they get there? Ask them and you will weep,” penned Tilottama Shome.

Swara Bhasker shared a post on Instagram and wrote: “Amazing!”. Zoya Akhtar also reacted to the news on Instagram. “Too Good,” the Luck By Chance director wrote in her Instagram stories.

Farhan Akhtar congratulated Payal Kapadia and her team on Instagram. “Heartiest congratulations #PayalKapadia and team #allweimagineaslight .. first Indian film to win the Cannes Grand Prix,” he wrote alongside a poster of the film.

Aditi Rao Hydari, who was also in attendance at Cannes 2024, penned a heartfelt note on Instagram, highlighting the significance of an independent film by a first-time director winning the Grand Prix honor at the Cannes Film Festival.

Alongside Payal Kapadia’s achievement, Parambrata Chattopadhyay took to Instagram to wish Anasuya Sengupta, who won the best actress in the Un Certain Regard segment at the festival. While we sought other glories , they created history , without making any noise of it! Bravo and thank you,” the Hawa Bodol actor wrote.

Tovino Thomas also expressed his admiration on Instagram. “Wow!! what an incredible achievement for Indian cinema! ‘All We Imagine As Light’ scripts history, becomes first Indian film to win Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival. Take a bow,” the 2018 actor wrote.

“Payal Kapadia’s All we imagine is light won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival! .. what an honour for her and her team. It seems to be India’s year at Cannes. This is the 3rd, but the biggest award to Indian Cinema this year,” Shekhar Kapur tweeted.

“"Herstory" created! ♥️ Breaking new grounds and inspiring us all... A hearty congratulations to the entire team of ‘All We Imagine As Light’,” Ayushmann Khurrana wrote on X.
