Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan clinched the trophy for best Asian film at the prestigious Septimius Awards in Amsterdam, while Scoop actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub earned the best Asian actor award at the ceremony held at the historic Tuschinski Theatre in Amsterdam on August 20.
Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, Maidaan is a biopic of Syed Abdul Rahim, a football coach whose relentless commitment to the sport brought great honour to India in the 1950s and ‘60s. While Ajay Devgn plays the lead role, the sports drama also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh in pivotal roles.
“Delighted and honoured to know that our film #Maidaan was accorded the Best Asian Film at the prestigious Septimius Awards held in Amsterdam, acknowledging the film's artistic brilliance and its significance on the global cinematic stage. Congratulations to our hardworking and dedicated cast and crew that accomplished to create the magnificence of Maidaan,” Boney Kapoor, the producer of the film, wrote on social media alongside a photo of Amit Sharma with the trophy.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub earned the Best Asian Actor award at the Septimius Awards for his outstanding performance in the Netflix original series Scoop. Directed by Hansal Mehta, the series is based on Jigna Vora’s book Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison. In addition to Ayyub, the series features performances by Karishma Tanna and Harman Baweja.
Congratulating the talented actor on X, Mehta tweeted, “You can’t keep a good man down. Congratulations @Mdzeeshanayyub for this much delayed but very richly deserved award. This one’s for all those juries that chose to ignore your stellar performance in #Scoop. Best Asian Actor #Scoop at the Septimius Awards, Amsterdam.”
