A sword-wielding Kajol appears in a never-before-seen action avatar and beats up goons in the teaser of her upcoming film Maharagni — an action thriller also featuring Naseeruddin Shah, Prabhudeva and Jisshu Sengupta — dropped by the makers on Tuesday.

Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn shared the teaser on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption, “Aali re aali, #Maharagni aali.”

The teaser of the Charan Tej Uppalapati directorial begins with Prabhudeva stepping out of an aircraft with a baseball bat, which he seemingly uses to beat someone to death. His voiceover warns, “Maut se zyaada khatarnak malum hai kya hota hai? Maut se pehle ki feeling (Do you know what is more terrible than death? The feelings that engulf you right before your death).”

The following clips introduce Samyuktha, whose character is desperately seeking revenge. “Sadiyo se sabr kar liya, ab sabak sikhane ki baari hai (I have waited patiently for years. It is now time to teach them a lesson),” her voiceover declares while she drives recklessly through a neon-lit street.

Set to pulsating beats, the following sequences show Kajol stepping out of a car during a festival in a red pantsuit. “Power maang ke nahi, cheen ke lee jati hai (You do not ask for power, you snatch it),” her character exclaims before engaging in a fierce fight with goons.

The teaser also shows Naseeruddin Shah’s character undergoing treatment in a hospital.

The music for the film has been composed by Harshvardhan Rameshwar of Animal fame. Navin Nooli, known for the 2019 film Jersey, serves as the editor of Maharagni. Produced by Venkata Anish Dorigillu and Harman Baweja, the film will be released in five languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malyalam.
