Mafia, the new series on Zee5 produced by Parambrata Chatterjee and directed by Birsa Dasgupta, will be released tentatively around December, in Hindi and Bengali.

The story, Birsa’s first web direction, about six friends — in whose life the psychological game Mafia becomes a huge part — stars Ishaa Saha, Ridhima Ghosh, Anindita Bose, Madhurima Roy, Ankita Chakraborty and Namit Das.

The team is busy shooting at a tea estate in Gorumara in north Bengal till the end of September. The Woods caught up with Anindita for a chat...

The Woods: You’re shooting every scene twice — in Hindi and Bengali. Is it draining or fun?

Anindita: This is the first time I’m doing a project in two languages. At first it was a little unnerving, but actually it isn’t. It just feels like we are retaking a scene, but in another language. So I’m pretty used to the whole concept by now.

It’s Birsa Dasgupta’s first web series. How is he as a director?

Well, I’ve worked with Birsada before, almost eight years back in this film called Jaani Dyakha Hawbe (2011). And now once again being able to collaborate with him for this project has been amazing. He is extremely chilled out and handles his actors very sensitively. When you know you’re working with a director who knows his craft you literally have nothing to worry about.

It has an interesting ensemble cast. Is it fun at the shoot?

Yes, we have an amazing team of actors, each and everyone of them are so good. We have about 25 days of only night schedule. So the fun thing that we get to do everyday when we leave our hotel and go to the location is eat momos on the way and watch the sunset. When we are on our way back, we listen to good music and watch the sunrise. Our body clock has changed!

How is it like shooting at the beautiful locales of Gorumara?

I’m shooting in Gorumara for the first time and it is beautiful! I’m in love with this place. It is picturesque, lush green, blue sky... shooting in this location has been therapeutic.

Mafia has an interesting storyline. What can you tell us about it?

Mafia is a story about six friends and two nights and how their life changes after that. The concept and story of this series is extremely intriguing. When I heard the narration, I didn’t even wait for a minute to say yes.

What’s next?

Thinkistan (web-series on MX Player) Season 2 is out on Friday and I can hardly wait for people to watch this season. The audience is in for big surprises. It’s my first series and we get a season 2. Hence, I am super-duper excited!
