Marginalisation of transgenders, TRP-driven reality shows capitalising on contestants outraging their dignity and the obsession with likes and validation on social media take centre stage in the trailer of Dibakar Banerjee’s upcoming crime thriller Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2, dropped by production house Balaji Motion Pictures on Friday.

The two-minute-33-second-long video brings to the fore three different storylines involving the characters played by Paritosh, Bonita Rajpurohit and Abhinav Singh. The first involves a transgender woman Noor (Paritosh) facing off against other contestants of a reality show. Judged by Tusshar Kapoor, Anu Malik and Sophie Choudry, the show is about to transition from dirty dancing to family-oriented entertainment. However, a number of clips emerge splitting its dark underbelly. “Can you really love Prakash?” one of the contestants asks Noor, questioning her identity.

The second storyline features another transgender woman, Kulu (Bonita), who gets heinously abused one night. Despite the efforts of a prominent activist (played by Swastika Mukherjee), the police refuse to file a case because the laws of the Indian Penal Code exclude transgenders from their ambit. On her quest for justice, Kulu suffers the greatest shock when the authorities arrest her lover Ajmal.

The third storyline revolves around a leaked MMS of a school student (Abhinav), who is also a popular gamer on YouTube. The scandal causes his followers to skyrocket, and the youngster fails to comprehend the vicious web in which he is entrapped.

Touted as a film “for the digital generation”, Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 features cameo appearances by Mouni Roy and Uorfi Javed. A sequel to Banerjee’s 2010 crime thriller of the same name, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor.

Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 is scheduled to release theatrically on April 19.
