A journalist trying to piece together the puzzle of a missing person’s story, with a sense of danger hanging heavy. The trailer of Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s feature film Lost stars Yami Gautam as crime reporter Vidhi Sahani who seems to pull no punches and is relentless in the pursuit of truth.

The two-minute-19-second trailer begins with the disclaimer that around 665 people go missing in India every year. Every two minutes a person goes missing, according to the 2019 report of the National Crime Records Bureau, which is followed by Yami’s voiceover posing the question — what’s more important for a reporter: the truth or to do the right thing?

The scene then moves to the Amherst Police Station in Kolkata where a woman lodges a report for her brother, Ishan Bharti, who has been missing for two weeks. Vidhi calls Ishan’s case a love story, while Ishan’s family allege that the police have been harassing them on the pretext of interrogation. The law enforcement authorities, on the other hand, think Ishan is involved with an extremist group. The police are not sure whether Ishan is missing or absconding.

What follows is Vidhi challenging the police’s version and running a parallel investigation all by herself. In the process, she makes enemies with people in power and there’s a word of caution from her boss to move away from the story. With Vidhi determined to get to the bottom of the truth, the wait is on to see how Aniruddha – the director of Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Pink – has tied it all in this mystery thriller inspired by true events.

Lost, which will release on ZEE5 on February 16, stars Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Khanna, Neil Bhoopalam, Pia Bajpiee and Tushar Pandey in pivotal roles. The film was screened at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa and the 13th Annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival to great acclaim.
