Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for the highly anticipated second season of its hit series Squid Game, set to release on the streamer on December 26.
“Players – it’s almost time. Squid Game Season 2 arrives December 26,” the official handle of the show wrote on social media alongside the 37-second-long teaser.
The teaser introduces a group of anonymous contestants clad in green tracksuits, with the numbers on their uniforms leading up to Seong Gi-hun's iconic #456. Lee Jung-jae, who portrays Gi-hun, is set to reprise his role after surviving as the last man standing in the inaugural season.
The official synopsis for Season 2 states, “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organisation proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
Returning cast members for Season 2 include Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun. Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an are among the new additions to the cast.
Squid Game Season 1 remains Netflix's most-watched series to date, securing 14 Emmy nominations and winning six awards, including best director for a drama series for Hwang, best actor in a drama series for Lee, and best guest actress in a drama for Lee You-mi.
The streaming platform also confirmed last month that a third and final season of the show is slated for release in 2025.
