“At a retreat in Morocco, a woman meets a young man whose acquaintanceship evolves into an intoxicating, life-altering love affair,” the streamer added about the storyline of the upcoming film.

According to Netflix’s companion site Tudum, Dern plays Katherine, a novelist who heads overseas only to fall headfirst for a man (Hemsworth) much younger than her. The unexpected love story serves as a turning point in Katherine’s life as she arrives at a deeper, more nuanced understanding of herself.

For Dern, Lonely Planet had a lot of attractive qualities. “What drew me to the story was the exploration of identity and self-worth within relationships,” she told Tudum. “The dynamic between the younger man and the older, established woman writer intrigued me because it’s not just about romance — it’s about finding someone who truly sees and understands you, which is something deeply human and relatable,” added Dern.

Hemsworth, on the other hand, was thrilled to be working with the Oscar winning-actress. “Sharing scenes with Laura Dern was an absolute privilege,” he said while speaking to Tudum. “She has this remarkable talent for drawing you in, making every moment feel intimate and real,” the actor noted.

Lonely Planet, backed by 3dot Productions, also stars Diana Silvers, Younès Boucif, Adriano Giannini and Rachida Brakni. Grant co-produces the film with Sarah Timberman and Liza Chasin. Brendan Ferguson, Corinne Weber and Margaret Chernin serve as the executive producers.
