Archaeologist Lara Croft speaks through her expressive eyes while aiming with her bow and arrow in the first-look video of Netflix’s upcoming animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, based on the popular 2013 video game.

Dropped by the streamer on Wednesday on YouTube as part of its DROP 01 event, a live showcase of its animated projects, the one-minute-6-second-long video shows Lara sporting a grey tank top and flaunting her brown hair and eyes.

The clip begins with Lara breathing heavily and preparing to aim with her bow and arrow. In the next scene, she is seen diving into a cave opening in a mountain with the help of a rope and stumbling upon an ancient inscription on a tombstone there. Lara also survives a fire and gazes at a picture of herself with other characters like Sam, Roth, Reyes and Jonah from the Square Enix game.

The series will pick up after the events of the 2013 video game Tomb Raider which explores the origin story of Lara Croft and her rise from a young girl to a strong survivor. The game, which focuses on survival in a hostile world, follows Croft travelling around the world in search of lost artefacts and dangerous tombs and ruins.

Netflix revealed this project in 2021 after announcing that it will add two more animated series to the Skull Island (2023) and Tomb Raider (2013) universes.

Angelina Jolie played the titular role in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and then reprised her role in its 2003 sequel Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. Netflix’s series will mark the game character’s animation debut.

The series is written by Tasha Huo who is known for The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022). She is also the executive producer along with dj2 Entertainment Founder, CEO Dmitri M. Johnson, Tim Stevenson and Dan Jevons.

With Hayley Atwell as the voice actor for Croft along with Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon in the cast, The Legend Of Lara Croft will arrive on Netflix next year.
