Hollywood actor Lance Reddick, who specialised in intense, icy and sinister authority figures on TV and is known for his role in the John Wick film franchise, died at the age of 60 on Friday.
He was found dead at his Studio City home in Los Angeles Friday morning, according to TMZ, which first reported the news.
In the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, which is set to release in theatres on March 24, Reddick reprises his role as Charon, the concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York City.
The late actor’s John Wick co-star Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski dedicate the upcoming film to his loving memory. “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly,” they said in a statement to the American entertainment magazine Variety.
Known for playing hardened police chiefs and other men of authority, Reddick first came to prominence after playing Detective Johnny Basil, an undercover officer in HBO’s prison drama Oz in 2000. HBO later cast him as Baltimore police lieutenant Cedric Daniels in The Wire in 2002.
The Wire was a rare prestige show to have a largely black cast at a time when television was mostly white. It is also regarded as one of the greatest TV series of all time.
After The Wire ended in 2008, Reddick joined Fringe later that year as Phillip Broyles, a special agent for Homeland Security and head of the Fringe division. In 2014, he was cast as another police chief in Amazon’s Bosch, which ended in 2021.
In 2022, Reddick also starred as Albert Wesker on Netflix’s short-lived series Resident Evil, an adaptation of the popular zombie video game.
Throughout his nearly 30-year career, the actor has also appeared in Lost, CSI: Miami, American Horror Story: Coven, The Blacklist, One Night in Miami, Angel Has Fallen and Godzilla vs. Kong among others.
Reddick was also slated to appear in the upcoming Ballerina spinoff, starring Ana de Armas.
