Laila Majnu stars Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary have thanked fans for the warm response to the Sajid Ali-directed romance drama upon its recent re-release, which saw packed theatres in several cities and is reportedly set to cross the film’s 2018 box office collection.
“The ‘Group Hug’ said it all. We’re all extremely happy with the kind of love our film is getting ....I remember 6 years ago when the film released there were literally 10 people in the theatre.. and cut to last night there was hardly any place for us to sit…. I am crying happy tears… this film is a piece of my heart and I am so very grateful for all your love…Thank you,” Triptii wrote in an Instagram post featuring Imtiaz Ali and Avinash Tiwary.
Triptii, who played the role of Laila in the film, looked stunning in a mauve sharara at the photoshoot. Wavy tresses, dewy makeup and dangly earrings completed her look. While Imtiaz sported a grey shirt and black trousers, Avinash wore a green shirt and black pants with green splashes.
“Anddd Laila majnu is back in theatres. Thank you for all the love,” the Bad Newz actress captioned a set of her pictures from the photoshoot.
Actress Mrunal Thakur took to the comments section and wrote, “Wow one of my most fav films. Congratulations @tripti_dimri.” Fans expressed their love and support for the film too. “It's time to get the recognition it deserved,” one of them wrote.
Avinash, too, thanked fans for their love towards the film. “Thank you for all the love...I have always believed there is a huge segment of audience that doesn't raise its voice... but Jo nahi bolte,Woh jab Bolte hain toh Kya Kamaal Bolte hain! Thank you to the audience...This is your victory...I know it was personal for you,” he wrote on X.
Laila Majnu’s re-release has achieved a historic feat as it surpassed the collection of its original run in 2018 over the course of only four days. Presented by Imtiaz Ali, the film didn’t receive enough recognition at the box office in 2018, earning just Rs 2.18 crore during its initial run. Upon its re-release, the film has reportedly earned close to Rs 1 crore, according to trade reports.
Laila Majnu, which released in theatres in 2018, is a tragic love story set in contemporary Kashmir, where Qais (Avinash) and Laila (Triptii) fall deeply in love despite societal pressures and family opposition. However, fate does not work in their favour as Laila gets married to another man when Qais goes to London.
