Lady Gaga stole the spotlight with her ritzy face mask at the world premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on Wednesday. She was accompanied by the film’s director Todd Philips and actor Joaquin Phoenix. Here’s a look.
On the red carpet, Lady Gaga donned a face mask with two pointy ears and veiled in Venetian lace. She paired it with a black velvet gown and an elaborate taffeta skirt.
In Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn, who is consumed by her obsession with Joker as he faces trial for his murderous spree.
Prior to the premiere of the sequel to 2019’s Joker, Lady Gaga revealed her admiration for the original film. She praised Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as the titular character, calling it “a new benchmark”.
During the press conference, Phoenix disclosed that he had a dream about Joker performing musical numbers, prompting him to call Phillips with the idea.
Todd Phillips expressed his excitement about returning to Venice but admitted to feeling more pressure this time. “The expectations are higher for a sequel,” he said.
Joker 2 features musical numbers that delve into Arthur Fleck’s emotional landscape, including dark reinterpretations of songs like Get Happy and For Once in My Life.
Joker 2 is competing against 21 films for the prestigious Golden Bear award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
Joker: Folie à Deux will release in Indian theatres on October 2.
