Actress Kusha Kapila challenges the women in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar to describe one another in three Urdu words in a new promo video dropped by streaming platform Netflix on Wednesday.

Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Sheikh — who played courtesans in Heeramandi — take up Kusha’s challenge. Only Richa Chadha, who plays Lajjo in the period drama series, was not present.

Aditi chooses Urdu words ‘khoobsurat’ (beautiful) and ‘shaatir’ (cunning) for Manisha. The next word proposed for Manisha is ‘zehrili’ (poisonous). While Sharmin depicts Aditi as ‘sehmi hui’ (scared), Sanjeeda characterises Aditi by her own name, signifying seriousness in Urdu. Manisha, on the other hand, refers to Aditi as ‘bohot khoobsurat’ (very beautiful).

Sonakshi describes Sharmin as ‘bholi’ (innocent), adding ‘masoom’ (innocent) and ‘shant mijaz’ (calm) to her description. Sanjeeda calls Sonakshi ‘chanchal’ (restless). While Sharmin says that Sonakshi is ‘tikhi’ (hot), others find her ‘nukeeli’ (sharp-edged). Finally, Sanjeeda is described as ‘dhokebaaz’ (traitor), ‘zakhmi’ (wounded) and ‘dalbadlu’ (a turncoat) by the cast of Bhansali’s maiden web series.

Also starring Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah and Adhyayan Suman, Heeramandi delves into tales of love and betrayal experienced by courtesans residing in Lahore’s oldest red-light district.

The period drama web series is currently available to stream on Netflix.
