“I clearly wanna go make a movie” — Kristen Stewart passionately spoke about her wish to make a movie after receiving the Visionary Award at Sundance Film Festival in Utah’s Park City on Thursday.

The 33-year-old actress, honoured at Sundance for her contribution to the field of independent films, recalled her first appearance at the festival. “I really love this festival...I came here for the first time 20 years ago.”

Jesse Eisenberg, Stewart’s co-star in Adventureland (2009), presented the trophy to the actress, who mentioned him in the acceptance speech. “I adore him…I love him so much,” she told the audience.

Stressing that no film ever made is a miracle, she pointed out the need to stay connected and help each other. “To be in this room is to be drenched in the evidence that we need each other so vitally,” she said.

Stewart also talked about the challenges faced by independent filmmakers. “It’s an irrational and illogical endeavour to make these movies that are so impossible to make,” she said before talking about her wish to direct such a movie. “I clearly wanna go make a movie... Thank you...[for] letting me know my whole life implicitly and explicitly that it is possible.”

The actress, who is on her way to make her feature film directorial debut with The Chronology of Water, later told US entertainment magazine Variety that she has attended Sundance to look for financing for her first feature film.

Two of Stewert’s films — Love Me directed by Sam and Andy Zuchero and Love Lies Bleeding by Rose Glass — are currently premiering at Sundance.
