Kolkata-based cake artist Priyanka Kundu Biswas was eliminated from the cooking reality show MasterChef India 2023 this week after failing to impress the judges with her pineapple chingri paturi during the ‘cooking with the grill’ challenge.
The show, which airs on weekdays at 9pm on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV, got its top seven contestants following Priyanka’s exit.
A heartbroken Priyanka couldn’t control her tears after the judges — celebrity chefs Vikas Khanna, Ranveer Brar and Garima Arora — announced her name as the eliminated contestant.
“I had never thought I’d be a part of MasterChef India. It was a very different experience. My struggle of seven years finally comes to an end. I just wanted to cook in that kitchen once. Never did I imagine I would come this far. But it has been amazing,” she said.
“I think I can say two things have happened in this kitchen. I cooked solo against chef Manav, which no other contestant here has achieved. I always wanted to cook food. I used to wait for that opportunity. I think in most of the challenges, I have always tried to do something new,” she added.
Commending Priyanka on her MasterChef India journey, chef Ranveer said whenever any contestant cooks dessert in future, it will remind him of Priyanka. Chef Vikas called her “the dessert queen” and said she has become the “queen of hearts”. Chef Garima promised her that she will visit her cafe whenever she opens one.
The home cooks and the judges took a break from the monotony of the MasterChef India kitchen this week as the show headed to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. While the contestants had a gala time at the various tourist attractions on the island, they also faced gruelling tasks to survive in the competition.
Kamaldeep Kaur, Aruna Vijay, Gurkirat Singh, Santa Sarmah, Nayanjyoti Saikia, Suvarna Bagul and Sachin Khatwani are the seven remaining contestants who will compete for the MasterChef India 2023 trophy.
