After a successful edition in New Delhi earlier this month, the 29th European Union Film Festival (EUFF) is set to captivate cinephiles in Kolkata with a curated selection of award-winning films from across the European Union and Ukraine.
Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to India in collaboration with EU Member States and regional partners, the festival will run from November 27 to December 13 at five venues — Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), The Creative Arts Academy, Arts Acre – Art Center, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, and Alliance Française du Bengale.
The EUFF serves as a platform to highlight the diversity and depth of European cinema, offering Indian audiences a glimpse into the continent’s rich storytelling traditions. This year’s edition features 26 award-winning films in over 31 languages, exploring themes such as complex relationships, queer identity, solidarity, sisterhood, and male bonding. The festival is open to all, and entry to screenings is free.
Many of these films have been screened at leading international film festivals. Several titles including La Chimera, What a Feeling, Because I Love Bad Weather, Stairway to Heaven, Death is a Problem for the Living, Jim’s Story, Without Air, Black Velvet, The Last Ashes, Blood on the Crown, Baan, Horia, and The Man Without Guilt will have their India premiere during the festival.
In a statement, Veronica Flora and Valerio Caruso, curators of the festival, said, “The 29th edition of EUFF India promises to take audiences on a cinematic journey, surprising them with new experiences by presenting a rich array of genres and languages. It delves into the unexpected and breathtaking landscapes of the imagination, revealing the ghosts of the present, while celebrating the resilience of the deepest core of humankind and its relentless pursuit of love and collective fulfilment.”
