The seventh season of filmmaker Karan Johar’s popular celebrity talk show Koffee with Karan will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on July 7, the filmmaker announced on social media on Sunday.
Karan shared a short teaser trailer on Instagram and Twitter with the caption, “Guess who’s back? And this time with some hot piping brew! #HotstarSpecials #KoffeeWithKaran S7 starts 7th July only on Disney+ Hotstar!”
The teaser trailer has snippets of his past celebrity guests including Shah Rukh Khan, Bipasha Basu, Saif Ali Khan, Anushka Sharma, Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. The montage of the guest stars ends with Priyanka Chopra Jonas excitedly saying, “Good to be back”.
The trailer clip ends with the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director stating, “Koffee with Karan season 7 is back. This time exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar. It’s going to be bigger, better, and more beautiful. Please stay tuned.”
The first season of the show aired on television in 2004 with Shah Rukh and Kajol as the first guests. Shah Rukh also returned for the first season’s finale as the guest star along with Amitabh Bachchan.
The English language talk show aired only on Star World for its initial seasons. All six seasons of the show have been aired on Star World and are available to stream on the Disney+ Hotstar. The seventh season will be the only season to stream exclusively on the OTT platform.
The show has a trend of dropping a season every three years. However, the trend was broken by Season 6 which premiered in October 2018 instead of 2019. Aside from its early release, the season was noted for an extremely controversial episode. Season 6 Episode 12 featuring cricketers K. L. Rahul and Hardik Pandya drew widespread criticism after its release. The episode was eventually removed from Disney+ Hotstar due to controversial statements made.
Following a prolonged break, Season 7 of the show promises to return with more coffee and star power.
On the film front, Karan is awaiting the release of his upcoming directorial venture Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani on February 10, 2023. He has also announced an action film.
