Since Karan Johar released the teaser for Koffee with Karan Season 7, we knew that the couch would soon be welcoming Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor together. The two besties and daughters from illustrious Bollywood families brought their own energies and vibes to Episode 2 which streamed on Disney+Hotstar on Thursday. While Janhvi lent her sophisticated touch, Sara channelled her ‘Namaste Darshako’ energy, and both were a delight to watch.

The episode did, at times, get close to the candid chat Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor had on Episode 3 of Season 3. However, this pair of actress friends were more careful with their comments. The episode is not one that would land the duo in trouble but it could land one of them in a relationship.

Here are the top moments from Episode 2 of Season 7:

Sara-Janhvi’s friendship and travel tales

Karan acknowledged that celebrity friendships are often fickle due to the competitive nature of the industry. While he expected the two young actresses to be at odds with each other, Sara and Janhvi have developed a deep friendship. The two shared how their stay in Goa played a major role in how close they became. There they had long, all-nighter conversations which both of them found therapeutic. Sara even said that she could discuss things with Janhvi that she could not do with her school friends. Despite their different upbringings and outlooks, they shared common anxieties about their careers which they could talk about.

The actresses said their friendship did not end in Goa. They and their common friends ended up taking trips to Disneyland and Kedarnath. Sara always appeared to take control of their trips, getting them either at the front of queues in Disneyland or in freezing, dirty hotel rooms in Kedarnath. Talking about their trip showed the proudly frugal side of the Kedarnath actress. While neither of the star kids-turned-stars have any shortage of money to spend on holidays, Sara chose to stay in a hotel room for Rs 6,000 instead of one that cost Rs 12,000. Their discussion about their holidays made Sara seem like an enjoyable travel buddy to bring along on any trip.

Ex-es, crushes and… Cheese!

Sara and Janhvi got candid when discussing their romantic lives. The duo left us fans sleuthing when they revealed that they had dated two brothers who at one point lived in the same building as Karan. Some fans speculated that they were talking about former Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s grandsons, Veer and Shikhar Pahariya.

Sara also took shots at another of her ex-es during the rapid-fire round. When Karan asked her why he is her ex, she said he is her ex “because he is everyone’s ex”. When he asked what was the most regrettable thing she had done in a relationship, she said that being in it was the most regrettable thing she had done.

The rapid-fire round also saw Sara hitting on all the recently married actors and even saying she would set Janhvi up with Varun Dhawan. Noting that all the “good men” were married, Sara said she would like to marry Ranveer Singh. She was light-hearted and unabashed about her crushes on married men.

Aside from joking about her love for the married men of Bollywood, Sara confessed that Liger actor Vijay Deverakonda had caught her fancy. The last time she came on the show, she had expressed her interest in Kartik Aaryan, with whom her romance seems to have fizzled out. The two actresses referred to Vijay as “Cheese” and Janhvi was more than happy to let Sara pursue the actor. Sara even quipped that she was going on a keto diet for Cheese.

Janhvi acknowledges her entitled take on the pandemic

Both Sara and Janhvi opened up about how the pandemic affected their lives. Karan began the episode by asking them how the pandemic lockdown was for them. Janhvi said, “It might sound a little entitled for me to say this, and a little unrelatable, but it was great for me.” She shared that it felt nice to not be seen for a bit. She felt that it gave her a much-needed break from the “hamster wheel” she had been on since her acting career took off in 2018. She pointed out that it also gave the family time to figure out life after the passing of her mother Sridevi.

It was not the same for her co-guest. Sara felt that she was losing out on a lot of experience-gaining opportunities during the prime of her career and life. Both Sara and Janhvi acknowledged that boredom and not being able to move about freely was a privileged problem they faced, as people were facing much worse during the lockdowns.

Karan addresses the idea of shelf life in an actress’ career

Talking about Sara’s anxiety about the lost time during the pandemic, which Janhvi found relatable, Karan tried to put the young actresses at ease. He said that the industry was evolving and moving away from the concept of a shelf life of a female actor’s career. He pointed out that Deepika Padukone was at the peak of her career at the age of 36.

Sara said it was not just about shelf life but the fact that every actor has something new to learn from a movie, and by missing out on movies during the pandemic they had a setback in their learning process as well.

Sara wins the rapid fire and quiz rounds

Sara stole the spotlight on the episode. She began the rapid fire by loudly campaigning “Vote for Sara”. With her honest and quirky responses in the rapid-fire round, she had a landslide victory much like her crush Ranveer did in the first episode of this season.

Sara was not done with taking the coffee hamper home. She fought tooth and nail to win the quiz round as well. Janhvi had a promising start in this round where they had to guess the names of movies and name movies that their family members had acted in. However, Sara won this round by managing to call several celebrities during the “Hi Karan! It’s me” round. In the round where the guest has to call a celebrity and get them to say “Hi Karan! It’s me”, Janhvi managed to get just one person to take her call.

The fun yet tame episode was all about Sara.
