Lust Stories co-stars Kiara Advani and Vicky Kaushal — ‘the beauty and the bahadur’, as described by show host Karan Johar — discussed their married lives and respective spouses in Episode 7 of Koffee With Karan Season 8. By saying ‘Hum yahan shuddhi karne aaye hain’, Vicky dropped hints at Karan Johar’s shelved project, Shuddhi, in which he and Kiara had been cast as the lead pair. Here are the highlights from Episode 7.

Vicky Kaushal on Sam Bahadur’s success

Basking in the appreciation for his performance as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Sam Bahadur, Vicky credited the film’s director Meghna Gulzar for holding his hand through the process. When Karan observed how well-researched his portrayal of Manekshaw has been, Vicky said he undertook a lot of prep work for it.

The Masaan actor shared that he gets pulled towards playing real-life heroes in historical dramas as there are many heroic characters in India. He had played the revolutionary Udham Singh in Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham and will star in Laxman Utekar’s upcoming film Chaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Kiara – the lucky mascot

On being considered ‘lucky’, Kiara said that during the India vs South Africa cricket semi-final, when everyone spoke about India’s luck at the World Cup, football star David Beckham, who sat beside her, said that it was not luck but someone’s hard work. Kiara said it hit her then that her success was a combined result of ‘talent, skill and hard work and not a fluke or a stroke of luck’.

The proposal story

Kiara revealed that Sidharth Malhotra proposed marriage to her at a Michelin-star restaurant in Rome, where he had taken his family and her on a holiday. It was just before the Shershaah actor appeared in the last season of Koffee With Karan, along with Vicky Kaushal. Despite being poked by both Vicky and Karan, Sidharth had managed to keep the news under wraps on that episode, ‘blushing from one part of the face to the other’.

Kiara had made it a point for Sidharth to ask for her parent’s permission before taking the big step. Soon after, Sidharth went down on one knee and proposed to her with a speech and a few lines from their hit film Shershaah.

On the other hand, Vicky formally proposed to Katrina Kaif the day before their wedding; it was an intimate dinner with just the two of them. Katrina was shooting in another country until then, and the Sam Bahadur actor said he had been warned that if he didn’t propose to her, she would talk about it forever.

The married lives of Vicky-Katrina and Kiara-Sidharth

Discussing the challenges of marrying another busy filmstar, Vicky said that post-marriage he makes a note of Katrina’s schedule so that they can spend some quality time together. Vicky revealed he gives the ‘silent treatment’ to Katrina at times during disagreements.

Post-marriage, Kiara’s main challenge has been to run the house as she has never lived all by herself, and she’s learning to share responsibilities. Neither she nor Sidharth, who is known to be ‘headstrong’, goes to bed angry, and after disagreements Kiara often has to coax her husband whom Karan called a ‘sulk pot’.

Both Kiara and Vicky confessed to being ‘messier’ than their respective partners. And while Katrina got Vicky to appreciate art, Kiara said she accompanied Sidharth to watch a cricket match.

Vicky on Dunki co-star Shah Rukh Khan

Karan shared that Shah Rukh Khan thought Dunki was Vicky Kaushal’s best performance until now. While working on Dunki, Vicky said he realised why Shah Rukh was the ‘Badshah’. ‘He (Shah Rukh Khan) is on the sets like he’s on his first film,’ said Vicky, for whom working on Dunki was ‘a surreal experience’.

A game of sorts

In the rapid-fire round, Kiara said she would prefer to be stuck with her exes, rather than her husband’s exes, in the elevator. For body goals, she said she looked up to Hrithik Roshan and admitted that trolls do bother her to some extent.

Vicky described himself as ‘sasta, sundar, tikao.’ He also revealed that he recently got starstruck on meeting Rajnikanth and he usually gets angry when he’s sleep-deprived.
