Kabir Singh co-stars Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor were the star guests of the eighth episode of Koffee with Karan Season 7 on Thursday. This episode, too, followed this season’s non-controversial conversation streak, though show host Karan Johar lightly “grilled” debutante Kiara and KWK regular Shahid. Here are the highlights.
Kiara’s candid admission of her relationship
Kiara is not coy about her relationship with her Shershaah co-star Sidharth Malhotra and that’s what we loved about her. It has been a week since Episode 7 showed Sidharth’s guarded response to Kiara’s admission (a recorded segment of Episode 8 was aired). While Karan had failed to tease information out of Sidharth, Kiara was more forthcoming about her romance.
She stopped shy of announcing a wedding date but when asked who she would like to be a part of her bride squad, Kiara mentioned Alia Bhatt (Sidharth’s ex-girlfriend). Both Shahid and Karan admired Kiara’s choice.
When Kiara met Sidharth
The story of how Kiara met Sidharth was something that remained unshared in the previous episode. Kiara revealed that she had known Sidharth long before they began working together on Shershaah. She spoke about the meet-cute between the two at a party after the wrap-up of the Netflix anthology film Lust Stories. Karan corroborated it as he, too, was at the party where the two stars met for the first time.
Shahid on married life and what he misses after marriage
With Kiara refusing to divulge wedding plans, it was Shahid who ended up talking marriage. Karan pointed out that Shahid had never been secretive about his romantic relationships, often coming on the show with his partner. After dating a string of Bollywood stars, Shahid went for an arranged marriage with Mira Rajput. The reason? Shahid said he was a “homely” and spiritual vegetarian and teetotaler, and finding someone from the industry with a matching lifestyle had been hard. Mira has brought a balance in his life, despite their nightly niggles over the speed of the fan, Shahid admitted cheekily. When asked what he missed about his single life, Shahid quipped: “Women”.
Kiara’s casting in Lust Stories
Kiara, who expressed regret about changing her first name Alia to her screen name Kiara, had almost missed being cast in Lust Stories. Karan, who directed a short film segment in the anthology film Lust Stories, revealed that he had first asked Kriti Sanon to play Megha in his short film segment which dealt with the topic of sexual pleasure of women. When Kriti refused, stating that her mother had objected to the role, Karan asked Kiara, who was more than happy to work with Karan on any of his directorial ventures.
Shahid’s take on Jersey’s box office failure
While the Arjun Reddy remake, Kabir Singh, saw immense popularity, Shahid was unable to repeat the success with the remake of the Telugu film Jersey. The Hindi version starring Shahid faced several delays in release due to the pandemic. When it released, Jersey made less than Rs 28 crore, which did not even make up for its Rs 80 crore production budget. Shahid said that Jersey should have gone for an OTT release instead and that today filmmakers should be mindful of the platform on which their films are being released.
