Both Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aamir Khan have been on Koffee on Karan several times but never have they been so tight-lipped. Episode 5 of Season 7 of Koffee with Karan was all about promoting their August 11 film Laal Singh Chaddha, a desi version of Forrest Gump with Aamir playing Tom Hanks’ role.
With the two stars focused on talking mostly about the film, the chat turned out to be even more monotonous than Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s Liger promotion in Episode 4.
Aamir expressed his anxieties over the process of producing Laal Singh Chaddha and revealed how Kareena was chosen for the role of Rupa Kaur. Kareena admitted she had to take a screen test for the role, something she had not done in a while and went for it with encouragement from husband Saif Ali Khan.
This episode of Season 7 is highly skippable but if you still want to catch it, here’s what you can tune into for.
Aamir’s take on Bollywood parties
When Karan kept insisting that Aamir did not enjoy film industry parties, the reclusive actor gave his hilarious take on Bollywood parties. Aamir had us in splits when he narrated how he stood on a raised platform at Karan Johar’s recent birthday party and kept observing the guests. With loud music blaring and no one dancing, the guests kept shouting at each other to carry on with their conversations, Aamir noted, adding that he enjoyed parties where he did not have to shout over loud music.
Aamir and Kareena on having unconventional family dynamics
Karan was keen to know how the two stars maintained their relationships with their “unconventional” families.
Aamir, who has been married twice, shared that he is very much involved in his children’s and former partners’ lives. He had daughter Ira and son Junaid with his first wife Reena Dutta. With his second wife Kiran Rao, from whom he is separated, Aamir had son Azad. “We’re always going to be a family,” Aamir said, while also lamenting that he had been more focused on his career than his family in the past. The Covid-19 lockdown helped him introspect and realise that spending time with family should be his priority.
Kareena shared that she respected her husband Saif Ali Khan’s relationship with his children from his previous marriage (to Amrita Singh) and that she, too, has a great relationship with the kids. With nothing more on the family front coming from the Jab We Met actress, Karan took on the task of sharing his thoughts. He mentioned noticing how Saif’s son Ibrahim has uninhibited conversations with his stepmother and also how big a fan of hers Saif’s daughter Sara has always been.
Kareena’s most insipid rapid-fire round ever
Having won the Koffee with Karan coffee hamper on several occasions, Kareena did not seem interested in the goody bag this time at all. Most of the questions were met with vague non-answers. The closest she came to giving a controversial statement was to a question involving a former boyfriend. Karan asked who her former boyfriend Shahid Kapoor would not invite to his party, and Kareena said it was her.
Not that Aamir’s answers were great pot-stirrers but his lack of knowledge of what ‘thirsty photos’ meant was the most entertaining moment of the rapid-fire round.
