Shah Rukh Khan’s wife and film producer Gauri Khan shared Karan Johar’s ‘couch of manifestation’ with Bollywood wives Bhavana Pandey and Maheep Kapoor in the twelfth episode of Koffee With Karan Season 7. Gauri, Chunky Panday’s wife Bhavana and Sanjay Kapoor’s wife Maheep — popular faces from Netflix reality show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives — got candid about their struggles, friendship and parenting experiences. Here are the highlights from the show.
Gauri opens up about son Aryan’s arrest
In October 2021, Gauri and Shah Rukh’s eldest son Aryan Khan was arrested on charges of consuming and possessing drugs. In May this year, the charges against him were dropped following an investigation. Karan brought up the topic of “tough times” that the Khan family faced during Aryan’s trial.
“I think nothing can be worse than what we’ve just been through, obviously, as a mother, as a parent… But today, I can say that we are in a great space where we feel loved by everyone,” Gauri said.
Gauri also had a positive takeaway from the phase — the love and support her family received from the film industry and fans. “I think today we feel blessed, and I would say I’m grateful to all the people who have helped us through this,” she added.
Maheep and Bhavana on their husbands’ career struggles
Karan’s question about how the career of the three long-time friends’ respective husbands affected their friendship received an honest and modest answer from the trio.
“Their (Gauri and Bhavana’s) husbands being more successful or not successful is secondary. For me, it was a very big deal to be married to Chunky,” Bhavana said.
She added that by the time she married Chunky, he was no longer getting cast as the lead so she never saw him at his peak.
Maheep opened up about her family facing tough times when Sanjay’s career slowed down. “There have been years when Sanjay was sitting at home. Years where money was tight. My kids have grown up seeing that also,” Maheep said.
Crediting her husband, she added, “He never made us feel it even for a split second, he was always happy.” For Maheep, her success was raising her children the way she wanted despite some people around them making them feel that they were the “unsuccessful ones”.
Gauri, married to Shah Rukh, said that her husband’s success did not play a role in her friendships. “I just value people for their presence, when they are with me, for who they are.”
Suhana, Ananya and Shanaya spill the beans on their “tiger moms”
The three mothers were treated to recorded messages from their budding celebrity daughters.
Calling her mother “the most confident person” she knows, Suhana retold how Gauri started wearing the pajamas provided by airlines in first class and business class around the house. However, Gauri has her “momager” moments where she won’t let her daughter post pictures on social media without checking them first, Suhana said.
Ananya Panday revealed that her mother Bhavana was nicknamed BBB—“Big Boss Bhavs”. Bhavana has to be kept in the loop about Ananya’s every move and appearance. “She is definitely my ‘momager’ and she is very involved,” the actress said.
Shanaya dubbed her mother the “cool mom”. “Whenever I have to go out, stay out late or I’ve to do something that is a little wrong, she is always like ‘it’s fine, I’ll hide from dad, I’ll do it, you go have fun’, so she’s extremely cool,” Shanaya said.
And the secret to Gauri, Bhavana and Maheep’s ageless figure was "their liquid diet” consisting of wine, Ananya joked.
Gauri’s dating advice leads to Ananya dating two men
In the rapid-fire round, Karan asked Gauri what her dating advice would be for Suhana. “Never date two boys at the same time,” Gauri advised. “I think Ananya has done that already,” Karan prodded.
Bhavana came to her daughter’s defence, “No, she was thinking of two, so she broke up with one.” However, Bhavana still seems to think Ananya looks good with her ex-boyfriend Kartik Aaryan. When further grilled by Karan about why the two broke up, Bhavana responded with a vague “Never say never. You never know.”
