KKBKKJ, Chengiz, Suzume, Evil Dead Rise: Films releasing in cinemas

While Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is headlined by Salman Khan, Chengiz stars Bengali actor Jeet in the lead

It’s Salman Khan vs Jeet at the box office this Eid as both the actors are back on the big screen with entertaining action thrillers for their fans. But Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Chengiz aren’t the only films hitting theatres this weekend. Supernatural horror Evil Dead Rise and Japanese fantasy adventure Suzume are also releasing in cinemas today.

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Hindi)

A remake of Siva’s 2014 Tamil film Veeram, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan revolves around Bhaijaan (Salman Khan), a self-defense expert who leads a peaceful life with his brothers (Raghav Juyal, Jassie Gill and Siddharth Nigam) but often takes recourse to violence to settle scores with others. When Bhaijaan falls in love with Bhagyalaxmi (Pooja Hegde), he decides to shun violence. However, Bhagyalaxmi’s family (Venkatesh, Bhumika Chawla and others) are in jeopardy because of an old enmity with Rowdy Anna (Jagapathi Babu) and Bhaijaan decides to go back to his old ways to protect them.

Chengiz (Bengali, Hindi)

Co-written by A Wednesday director Neeraj Panday, Chengiz tells the story of the meteoric rise of underworld don of the same name in Calcutta in the 1970s. The film recounts how Jaidev (Jeet), born in a family of police officers, becomes one of the most-dreaded dons. Chengiz, who rules over the underworld in Calcutta, is also in love with an air-hostess (Susmita Chatterjee). When his uncle (Rohit Bose Roy), a cop, is tasked with bringing his empire down, it leads to a showdown between the two.

Evil Dead Rise (English)

Evil Dead Rise, the fifth film in the Evil Dead franchise, revolves around estranged sisters Beth (Lily Sullivan) and Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland). Beth hopes to reunite with her sister after a long road trip and visits Ellie, who lives with her three children in Los Angeles. However, their reunion is marred by the discovery of a mysterious book hidden in Ellie's building. They are forced to fight for their lives when the book unleashes flesh-possessing demons.

Suzume (Japanese)

Directed by: Makoto Shinkai

Voice Cast: Nanoka Hara, Hokuto Matsumura, Eri Fukatsu, Shota Sometani

Suzume is a fantasy-adventure film that revolves around Suzume Iwato (Nanoka Hara), a 17-year old school student who teams up with Souta Munakata (Hokuto Matsumura) to save Japan from an impending disaster. Suzume has the gift of seeing supernatural forces that lead her to a door that can spell doom for the planet. When the skies turn red, she decides to undertake a life-threatening mission to save her country.
