“Laapataa Ladies will be found in Japan from October 4, 2024. We are so excited for our theatrical release in Japan by Shochiku, Japan - - arigato gozaimasu,” wrote Kiran on Instagram, sharing a teaser of the film in Japanese.

Starring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Srivastav and Pratibha Ranta, Laapataa Ladies marks Kiran's return to the director's chair 14 years after her debut film Dhobi Ghat (2010).

Bankrolled by Aamir Khan Productions, the comedy drama set in 2001 explores the misadventures of two brides — Phool (Nitanshi) and Jaya (Pratibha) — who accidentally get separated from their husbands on a train, setting off a series of comedic mishaps. The rural comedy also stars Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, Geeta Agrawal Sharma, Pankaj Sharma and Satendra Soni in key roles.

According to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk, Laapataa Ladies managed to garner Rs 27.06 crore worldwide upon its release on March 1. The film, which is currently streaming on Netflix, was also screened at Toronto International Film Festival last year.
