Ticket prices for Kiran Rao’s latest comedy Laapataa Ladies will be slashed to Rs 100 each to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, Jio Studios announced via an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“Special offer to watch our #LaapataaLadies with your ladies now in your near cinemas, to aa rahe hai naa aap (So, are you coming)?” wrote the makers alongside a poster featuring the lead female cast of the film.
Laapataa Ladies, which has already garnered over Rs 4 crore at the domestic box office despite its limited release on March 1, is based on an original story by Biplab Goswami. Set in the fictional heartland of Nirmal Pradesh, the film recounts the experiences and adventures of two new brides, encumbered by their long veils. After they get swapped during an overnight train journey, one of them is taken home by the groom, while the other is left stranded at a railway station.
Pratibha Ranta (Jaya) and Nitanshi Goel (Phool) play the lost brides, while Sparsh Shrivastav essays the role of the hapless groom (Deepak). The film also features Ravi Kishan as a sardonic police officer.
With Laapataa Ladies, Kiran has returned to the director’s chair after a gap of 13 years following her 2010 drama film Dhobi Ghat. The film is produced by Kiran’s ex-husband Aamir Khan, while Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios serves as the co-producer.
