Witcher star Freya Allen joins forces with It star Owen Teague to save humanity from tyrannical apes in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer, dropped by the 20th Century Studios on Monday.
The two-minute-30-second-long trailer sets the story of the fourth instalment of the popular film franchise 300 years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). It begins by showing humans as a primitive race, while apes have a complex society led by authoritarian leader Proximus Caesar, played by Kevin Durand.
Durand’s Proximus Caesar has the aspiration to conquer the rest of the planet and he sets his hunters after a human — Nova, played by Allen. Nova is targeted for being more intelligent than the other primitive humans.
On the run from Proximus Caesar’s hunters, Nova meets Teague’s Noa, an ape who is curious about humans after hearing stories about human civilisation and how they were “capable of many great things” like flying and spanning across oceans. They join hands and prepare to face-off against Proximus Caesar to define the future of apes and humans.
War of the Worlds writer Josh Freidman collaborated with Avatar: The Way of Water writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver as well as Prey writer Patrick Aison for the screenplay of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Helmed by Maze Runner director Wes Bell, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will release globally on May 10. In India, the movie will hit theatres in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
