Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Srikanth had a decent opening at the Indian box office on Friday with the Wes Ball-helmed sci-fi adventure minting Rs 3.15 crore nett and the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Rs 2.25 crore nett, as per industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes serves as a standalone sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). It is the fourth instalment in the reboot franchise and the tenth overall.

Led by Owen Teague, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes features an ensemble cast including Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy.

Set centuries after the events of the 2017 film, the storyline follows the journey of a young chimpanzee named Noa (Owen Teague) and a human character named Mae (Freya Allan) whose interactions play a crucial role in shaping the relationship between apes and humans.

In the United States, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes kicked off its box office journey with a promising start, raking in USD 6.6 million during preview screenings.

In the Indian market, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes faced competition from Srikanth at the box office. Directed by Tushar Hiranandani and starring Rajkummar Rao, Alaya F, Jyothika and Sharad Kelkar, the biographical drama recounts the remarkable tale of visually-challenged industrialist Srikanth Bolla.
