Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone travels through a nondescript urban landscape in a speeding car in the teaser of Kinds of Kindness, the latest project of Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos.
Scenes flash by in the 47-second long teaser, dropped by the makers on Wednesday, as it unravels haunting images — a body being dragged through a dimly lit corridor, Margaret Qualley’s slap on Jesse Plemons’ face and Hunter Schafer performing a ritual in an examination room. The teaser ends with Stone’s voice posing the question, “Isn’t it beautiful?”
Described as a “triptych fable” in the official summary, Kinds of Kindness intertwines lives of three distinct characters — a man grappling with the absence of choice in his life, a policeman embarking on a quest to reunite with his lost-at-sea wife and a woman in search of someone possessing unique spiritual abilities.
The ensemble cast also includes Willem Dafoe (who featured in Poor Things), Joe Alwyn (known for his role in Lanthimos’s The Favourite), Hong Chau and Mamoudou Athie.
Lanthimos has co-written the screenplay of Kinds of Kindness with Efthimis Filippou, with whom he collaborated on The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth.
Kinds of Kindness will hit cinemas in the US on June 21 and June 28 in the UK.
