Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone are a couple entangled in an investigation involving mysterious deaths of Oklahoma’s Osage tribe members in the first teaser trailer of Martin Scorsese’s crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon.

Unveiled by Apple TV and Paramount Pictures on Thursday evening, the one-minute-50-second-long clip begins with a slow-motion shot of a few Osage tribe people dancing after discovering an oil fountain. We are then introduced to DiCaprio’s character as he narrates a book on Osage culture and tries to “find wolves in the picture”.

The teaser trailer then introduces Robert De Niro’s character before cutting to a montage of death and anarchy as the title card flashes “Greed is an animal… that hungers for blood”.

Sharing the video on Twitter, DiCaprio wrote: “#KillersOfTheFlowerMoon will exclusively be in theatres from @ParamountMovies & @AppleFilms this October. It's a project I am proud of & I cannot wait to share it with you all.”

Based on the non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann, the screenplay is written by Eric Roth alongside Scorsese. The film also features Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, Jillian Dion and Brendan Fraser.

The plot of the film reportedly revolves around a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s, reportedly committed after oil was discovered on tribal land.

The film will mark the second collaboration between DiCaprio and De Niro after nearly 30 years. They were last seen together in 1993’s This Boy's Life. Killers of the Flower Moon marks the seventh collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio and the eleventh collaboration between the filmmaker and De Niro.

Killers of the Flower Moon will have its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20 and is scheduled to be released in select cinemas on October 6, before a release in the United States on October 2. It will then be available for streaming on Apple TV+.
