Khadaan makers on Tuesday dropped the song Rajar Raja, a foot-tapping number that marks actor Dev’s return to onscreen dancing after a decade. Also starring Jisshu Sengupta, the Bengali film is set to hit theatres on December 20.

The electrifying track, composed by Savvy and sung by Dev Arijit, is a high-energy celebratory song. Amidst the film’s narrative set in the rugged coalfields of the Damodar Valley, the song serves as a refreshing burst of colour and joy.

“Did you think I have forgotten how to dance because I’m busy with family? That’s MY job Now let’s DANCE ,” Dev wrote in the caption on social media while sharing the song.

In Rajar Raja, Dev’s grand entry and the scene of him performing an aarti in front of a Mahadev idol have already created a buzz among fans. In the song, Dev dances with a bell in one hand and a lamp in the other, adding to the celebratory feel. His dance in front of a statue of Nataraja brings out a nostalgic vibe, reminding fans of the spirited Dev they know and love. The video’s setting, with Dev dancing in a religious procession, is reminiscent of the powerful visual of the song Deva Shree Ganesha from Agneepath.

Directed by Soojit Dutta, Khadaan follows the story of Shyam, a young man who works in the coal mines. Mohan (Jisshu Sengupta) is his close friend and they face the challenging realities of the coalfields and strive to build a better future.

Soojit Dutta expressed his excitement on the song’s release. “Travelling through Bengal’s towns and villages, I see how much people love Bengali cinema; it’s an event of celebration for them. My vision was to revive an era we left behind but with a modern touch,” he said.

“Savvy composed this song beautifully, and Devda told me early on, ‘This song will give your story the power it needs.’ He has a great sense of music that really helped me. Now, I’m thrilled and leave it all to the god of cinema—our beloved audience,” Dutta added.
