Katy Perry’s mother was bamboozled by viral AI-generated images of her daughter at the 2024 Met Gala, the pop singer posted on social media on Monday.
Taking to Instagram, Perry posted the fake images of her at the event, explaining that they are fake as she couldn’t attend this year’s Met Gala due to her prior commitments. “Couldn't make it to the MET, had to work,” she wrote in the caption.
One of the photos features an AI-generated image of Roar singer standing on the iconic steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is seen in a light beige gown adorned with floral embroidery and moss trim with her hair cascading down to her waist in soft waves.
Perry also shared a screenshot of her exchange with her mother, who was confused seeing her daughter’s image at the prestigious event. “Ha Feather! Didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol,” her mother wrote.
“Lol, mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!” Perry playfully responded.
However, Perry was not the only celebrity stung by the phenomenon of AI-generated celebrity imagery. Rihanna and Lady Gaga also fell victim to virtual manipulation. Fake images of them at the Met Gala have been circulating on the internet, even though none of them attended the event this year.
The theme for 2024 Met Gala was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, requiring attendees to adhere to the dress code ‘The Garden of Time’.
