Princess of Wales Kate Middleton received a 30-second standing ovation from the Centre Court crowd at the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Sunday during one of her rare public appearances following cancer diagnosis in March.
“A wonderful Centre Court welcome for our Patron HRH The Princess of Wales,” the official Instagram page of the tennis tournament wrote alongside a video of the audience giving a standing ovation to Kate.
Kate attended the final match between Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz and seven-time winner Novak Djokovic. Known for fostering a passion for sports, especially tennis, Kate has been the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016.
“Great to be back at @Wimbledon! There’s nothing quite like The Championships,” she wrote on Instagram alongside her pictures from the event.
For the match, Kate sported a purple dress featuring a twist of fabric around the bust and an A-line skirt.
Kate, who attended the tournament with her daughter Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton, met with several British tennis players, including Emma Raducanu and Lucy Shuker.
Last month, the Princess of Wales joined other British royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for King Charles III’s birthday, marking her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis in March.
This year marks Princess Charlotte’s second appearance at a Wimbledon match. Charlotte joined her parents and elder brother Prince George last year for her Wimbledon debut.
Kate spent two weeks in hospital in January for a major abdominal surgery. Two months later, she announced in a video that she has been diagnosed with cancer. She recently shared an update, mentioning that her health has improved since her diagnosis.
