Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion picks up momentum over weekend, mints Rs 24 crore in 3 days

Kabir Khan's latest sports drama is facing competition from the horror comedy film Munjya, which has crossed the Rs 50-crore mark at the box office

After a not-so-promising start on Friday, Kabir Khan's latest sports drama Chandu Champion starring Kartik Aaryan experienced a significant boost at the domestic box office on its first weekend, minting Rs 24.1 crore nett in three days.

According to trade figures, Chandu Champion debuted on June 14 with Day 1 earnings of Rs 5.4 crore nett and collected Rs 7.7 crore nett on Saturday. On Sunday, the sports drama minted Rs 11 crore nett.

In comparison, Kartik Aaryan's previous release Shehzada (2023) garnered Rs 20.20 crore nett by the end of its opening weekend. His first post-pandemic film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), collected Rs 55.96 crore nett on its debut weekend, while the romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha earned Rs 37.35 crore nett over its opening weekend last year.

Also starring Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala, Rajpal Yadav and Bhuvan Arora, Chandu Champion achieved an overall occupancy rate of 32.47 per cent in Hindi-speaking regions on Sunday, with the highest turnout during the evening shows.

With the Eid holiday falling on Monday, Chandu Champion has a good opportunity to sustain its box office momentum, according to trade analysts.

However, the Kartik Aaryan-starrer will soon face competition from Nag Ashwin's highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD, scheduled for release on June 27. Currently, Chandu Champion is competing with Munjya, which has surpassed the Rs 50-crore mark domestically.

Headlined by Abhay Verma and Sharvari Wagh, the horror comedy film had a fantastic first week at the domestic box office, minting Rs 36.5 crore nett. On its second Friday, the Aditya Sarpotdar-helmed movie raked in Rs 3.75 crore nett. This was followed by a collection of Rs 15.5 crore nett over the weekend, taking the total collection of the film to Rs 55.75 crore nett so far.
