Karan Johar expressed his excitement on Instagram, saying, “Extremely thrilled to announce @dharmamovies and @balajimotionpictures coming together for a film helmed by the exceptionally talented @sandeipm. I find myself elated to also announce the supremely talented @kartikaaryan as our lead for this story that will unfold in cinemas on 15th August, 2025!”

The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani director wished Kartik on his birthday, expressing his hope for the collaboration to “grow from strength to strength” and to “never cease to create magic on the big screen”.

Kartik shared his excitement about the project on X (formerly Twitter). “An unforgettable chapter of our glorious Indian history full of valour and sacrifice is now going to be part of my life. A subject close to my heart... super proud and excited to embark on a new journey with the extremely talented @sandeep_modi and the powerhouse #karanjohar and @EktaaRKapoor,” he wrote.

This collaboration comes after Kartik’s exit from the much-anticipated Dharma Productions project, Dostana 2. The film, which was supposed to star Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya, was reportedly shelved due to creative differences.

Kartik has previously collaborated with Ekta Kapoor on the Disney+ Hotstar thriller Freddy. He recently wrapped the shoot for Chandu Champion, his upcoming film with director Kabir Khan. It is a sports drama reportedly based on the true story of a sportsman who never gave up his fighting spirit. The film has already been shot in London and Kashmir and is expected to hit theaters next year.
