Raveena Tandon plays former Bollywood queen Indrani Kothari, whose life turns upside down following the entry of a young, mysterious girl in her hometown in the trailer of Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming series Karmma Calling, dropped by the streamer on Tuesday.

The two-minute-6-second-long video introduces us to Raveena’s Bollywood glam queen who cannot escape her karma in a vicious world of glamour, glitz, deceit and betrayal. Raveena plays a 90s’ Bollywood queen who became the “reigning queen” of Alibaug after her marriage with a billionaire. However, things take a dark turn when another rich girl named Karma Talwar, played by Namrata Sheth, comes into her life and seeks revenge.

Taking desperate measures, Raveena wants to beat Karma but ultimately must pay for her wrongdoings in the past. Karma, a “new entrant in the affluent society of Alibaug”, acts like she has lived her entire life in the place and takes over Raveena’s places of control — extravagant parties and love interests — one by one.

Karmma Calling is inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo and adapted from the 2011 American drama series Revenge.

Following her OTT debut with the 2021 Netflix thriller Aranyak, Karmma Calling will mark Raveena’s return to the digital space.

“Na power, na paisa, na rules - Indrani ka saamna koi nahi kar paya. Kya hoga jab uska saamna hoga uske Karmma se? (Not power, not money, not rules - No one could beat Indrani. But what would happen when she faces Karmma?)” Disney+ Hotstar wrote alongside the trailer on Instagram.

Guilty director Ruchi Narain has helmed the show. Produced by R.A.T. Films, Karmma Calling will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from January 26.
