Director-producer Karan Johar has shared a video of Kareena Kapoor Khan meeting Rani Mukerji, with a nod to their onscreen characters Poo and Tina from his blockbusters Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
“Jab Poo met Tina…that’s all,” Karan wrote alongside the video. Kareena played Poo in the 2001 blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, while Rani played Tina in the 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Both the films were directed by Karan Johar.
Kareena, who also shared screen space with Rani in Yash Chopra’s 2002 romcom Mujhse Dosti Karoge, is seen planting a kiss on her co-star's cheek in the video. “I like it. I will go to the prom with you,” quips Karan in the background. He then asks Rani if she would be friends with him. “Never,” retorts Rani while Kareena adds, “We’re regretting it,” before bursting into laughter at the banter.
While Kuch Kuch Hota Hai also starred Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan alongside Rani, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham featured Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh, Kajol and Hrithik Roshan in addition to Kareena.
In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Rani played Tina Malhotra Khanna, the beloved of Shah Rukh’s Rahul. Rahul marries Tina, while Kajol’s character, Anjali, walks away, believing her love for him to be unrequited. The two reunite years later at a children’s camp in Shimla, thanks to Rahul’s daughter, Anjali.
Kareena’s Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is the stylish, flamboyant younger sister of Anjali Raichand (Kajol). Known for her unforgettable dialogue delivery, chic outfits and sharp comic timing, Kareena’s portrayal made Poo a memorable character.
On the work front, Rani will next star in a yet-untitled family drama from filmmaker Shonali Bose. She will also reprise her role as the fierce cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in YRF’s Mardaani 3. Meanwhile, Kareena has been earning plaudits from moviegoers for her portrayal of Avni Bajirao Singham in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again.
